GOTRO – Embraces Humanity

Gotro is a Bengali movie to be released on this Janmashtami, 23rd August 2019. It is directed by the renowned director Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee. They are not only renowned for creating content-rich films based on relationships, but also known for directing only one film a year. However, this year for the first time they have directed two films in 2019. After winning the millions of hearts with the beautiful and heart-warming film ‘Konttho’,  Nandita and Shiboprosad are ready with their next film ‘Gotro’ which is going to be released on this Janmashtami.

Now comes to the story of ‘Gotro’, which narrates about an elderly lady who develops a strong and unique bond with an ex-convict who is consigned to take care of her. ‘Gotro’ focus on the searching for the true identity of a human being. In this era, where violence is based on religion, cast and creed is pervasive, Gotro strikes a different note of communal harmony. We see so much violence around us due to the religious differences. We have almost forgotten our true identity i.e., Humanity. We have forgotten no religion or cast is bigger than humanity. Do the human beings really have any “gotro” ?
‘Gotro’ tries to remind us the importance of humanity over religion through a heartwarming story.

In Gotro, we will see Anashua Majumdar as Mukti Devi, the elder lady and Nigel Akkara will play the role of an ex-convict as Tariq Ali, who develops a strong bond with Mukti Devi.
