Bengal: ISKCON’s Rath Yatra goes digital in Kolkata this year !!
- ISKCON Kolkata to hold a low-key Rath Yatra inside its Albert Road temple in Kolkata
- Amid COVID-19 pandemic, devotees will not be allowed to participate in the celebrations
- ISKCON Kolkata website will live stream the rituals for devotees to watch from home.
Keeping in tune with the apex court order, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Kolkata has decided to scale down this year’s Rath Yatra. The 49th Rath Yatra will be a low-key affair inside the Albert Road premises.
Temple priest and monks will pull three, one-feet chariots, inside the temple premises as a symbolic gesture. The servitors will perform the rituals on Tuesday in the Albert Road temple in a temporary ‘Gundicha Mandir’ where the three deities will be kept.
“Last year on Rath Yatra we had about four lakh devotees join in, to pull the chariot. The route in Kolkata is about 9km long and unlike the one in Puri, here we do not have a dedicated road for the chariot but a one with traffic. With Covid-19 social distancing was also a big challenge for us”, said Radharamn Das, Vice President and spokesperson of ISKCON Kolkata.
