From 8:30 pm to 11:30 pm on Saturday, Cyclone Bulbul completed the landfall over West Bengal near Sunderban Dhanchi forest. The storm crossed the coast as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speeds of 110-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph, confirmed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the latest update, Cyclone Bulbul has moved on to Bangladesh and lies roughly 115 km east-southeast of Kolkata during early hours of Friday. The storm has weakened to a Cyclonic Storm category, and the maximum sustained wind speed has dropped to 80-90 kmph. As the ocean feeds the storm with moisture and heat, cyclones tend to lose steam much faster after landfall.
