HEAVY RAIN HITS KOLKATA, 1 DEAD MORE THAN 15 INJURED

A 30 year old man got killed along with more than 15 got injured today in a lightning strike in Victoria Memorial Complex Kolkata, when a heavy rain fall shattered the city.

The visitors were standing under a tree which was hit by the lightning. All of them were taken to SSKM hospital where Mr. Subir Pal was declared dead. Pal came to Victoria memorial complex along with his wife and two year old daughter. The family lives in Dum Dum area.

The rainfall started around 3:20 pm and lasted for near about two hours, however in this short span of  time the rain was so heavy that made the city stagnant for hours. Even flights could not land or take off between 3.40 pm to 4:00 pm due to low visibility caused by heavy rain, said an official. In several parts of the city, water-logging led to traffic jams causing inconvenience to locals. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has set up control rooms to oversee the situation.

According to a state control room monitoring the situation, the worst-hit parts in the city are in south Kolkata including Behala, Mominpur and Jinjira Bazar.
