Kolkata: The West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday declared all the educational institutions to shutdown till April 15 and the state government will corpus of Rs 200crore fund to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.
She also asked cinema theatres to remain shut till March 31.
Bengal became the 14th state to invoke the Epidemic Diseases.
Banerjee said the state government would invoke the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 so that action could be taken against those who do not follow the safety precautions suggested by the authorities to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The cheif minister also said, “We have decided to create a fund of Rs 200 crore to tackle this crisis. We also decided to offer Rs 5 lakh insurance to 10 lakh people involved in health hazard areas. They include doctors, nurses and personnel of the Army, the CRPF and the CISF,”
A call centre set up by the state government in this context has received 5,000 calls so far, she said.
